Garret Tyler

My little boy is almost two! When he was born my world changed. I can't even imagine not being a parent- I have learned so much from him and from being a parent. I really believe that you love the people you serve the most- and there is a lot of service in parenting. I remember being big and pregnant with Garret and thinking about parenthood and what it was going to be like- I pictured my cute baby and all the fun we would have together. I really didn't know all the work it would entail- its strange how a lot of the things I do as a parent are menial and repetitive but because I love him- I really don't mind. I feel like being a parent taught me what life is really about.

A little photo tribute to the birthday boy!

I love my little Garret. I love that he makes me smile and cry (usually happy tears), I love that he makes everything fun again (holidays, parades, the zoo etc), I love that he is so energetic and imaginative. I just love him.

Garret Tyler

Born October 4, 2005

Weighed 9'4"

First words- Ball and Uh-oh

First airplane ride- Colorado to Washington 3 months old

Favorite sport- Baseball

Favorite food- treats and hot dogs

Potty trained- two

Slept through the night- 8 hours by 3 months 12 by 7 months

Some of my favorite Garret memories-

- When I first held him- I felt like I had known him forever

-When he was new born he used to be sleeping and then shoot one arm up into the air and point then it would fall down slowly- so cute

- In Rexburg I used to take him to work with me and he would usually just sleep, sometimes I just put him under my desk (in his car seat) people would hear him farting and give me funny looks

- In Rexburg we served at a nursing home and if we ever brought Garret it was so fun to watch their eyes light up when we brought him in- everyone in Rexburg loved Garret so much.

-Garret loved helping with the Garden and when his Grandma and Grandpa were here he loved taking them and showing it to them.

-Holidays are so fun with Garret - usually Tyler and I are more excited than he is but all holidays are great with Garret ( I am especially excited for this Christmas because he is at such a fun age!)

-His first birthday was so fun. I loved watching him eat his little baseball cake

-I think my heart just melts every time he says "I love you" without being prompted

-Garret used to call me and Tyler both "Daddin"

-We took Garret camping when he was 7 months old and we didn't bring enough blankets so we put all the blankets around him to keep him warm and me and Tyler froze but he slept good and we laugh about that awful night a lot.

-Garret loves to help with our house I have a lot of good memories watching him help his Daddy and Grandpa fix things up

- Garret loves animals, he loves all dogs but the first memory of him really loving dogs was my brothers dog Ridge, he would just wrestle and love that dog it was so cute.

- I love holding Garret and reading him stories, he loves books and I do to so sometimes we read and its like we go to the silly places his books take us together

-I remember being so proud of Garret when he started going potty on the toilet!

- Garret loves to help me in the kitchen and we have lots of fun if we ever make bread or anything messy like that

-when Garret was little he was being a brat one day and we were in a silly mood so I told Tyler he couldn't call Garret a brat to his face so we decided a code word for when he was being a brat would be "cookie" so then we started calling Garret "cookie", we now joke about what an awful nickname he ended up with- heindsight is 20/20

-Garret went tubing behind a speed boat when we were in Washington and he loved it (he is so fearless)

-Garret says his own prayers at night and sometimes there is not much to them but occasionally he really gets going and I love hearing the random things he says

- I love watching Tyler and Garret play together- Tyler has been a very hands on Dad from the beginning and it just makes me so happy to see them play together. They are such good friends and I know that Tyler is Garret's hero (I hope nothing more for Garret than for him to turn out like his Dad)

I have so many Garret memories and he just gets more fun all the time! We are so excited for his birthday. When we ask him what he wants he says "cake, balloons, hot dogs and Ella Jane" I think we should be able to keep him pretty happy.

Some of Tyler's favorite Garret memories:

-Walking Garret around the hospital when he was first born, watching cartoons with him- anything to keep him happy and loving every minute of it.

-Watching Garret sleep

- Taking naps with him

-Watching him eat ice cream- what a mess, but so much fun

-Singing to him before we put him to bed

-Swimming in his little pool with him (way to small for two)
-The first time he called me "Daddin"

-Wrestling him

- playing baseball with him

-Just loving him, being his Dad- it is all so great

The Great Pumpkin Patch

We finally felt good enough to leave the house!!! We decided to go to the great pumpkin patch. We had such a fun day together. There were animals, face painting, a juggler, a magician, hay rides (Garret decided he did not want to go) and a pie eating contest.

Tyler, Richard and John decided to enter the pie eating contest. You get five minutes to eat as many pieces of pie with no hands that you can. The winner ate 11 slices - it was sick. She would just sort inhale one slice and then go for the next. Tyler ate 9 slices. He ended up in a four way tie for second. The judge said they needed to all eat one more slice and whoever ate it the fastest got second. So they ate another slice (at this point I was laughing hysterically because I was not sure Tyler could get another piece in him). The judge decided there was another tie somehow so they had to eat one more (Tyler ended up spitting this one out). Finally the judge determined they all did great (if you can call eating over 10 slices of pie great). We got a 20$ gift certificate to the store. It only had Halloween stuff and I am not the biggest decorator so we just got a candle (it does smell good), apple cider and a coloring book. I am not sure if Tyler would say it was worth it or not. If he had eaten 19 slices the judge was going to give out a hundred dollars but I am not sure that is possible. The whole contest was pretty entertaining for those of us just watching.

Spencer slept most of the time we were there! He is still getting over the end of his cold. Poor baby. I tried to get a cute picture of him- It didn't work so well!!! Garret had a great day, he was so excited about going to the pumpkin patch that this morning at 8:30 I said we couldn't leave to go until he napped. So he grabbed his blanket and went and laid down in bed. I was shocked that he actually went to sleep and slept til 10:00. He struggled a little with the potty training today. The last few days he has only had trouble with the number 2s but today he had a couple more accidents than that. I think he is figuring things out though. We might even be able to say he is trained by the time his birthday comes next Thursday- or it could get a lot worse before then, i really don't know much about potty training but I am hoping for the best.

Will this week ever end?

This week has been the longest week ever- usually I am complaining because time goes by too fast. This week is the opposite. The kids and I have been sick and Tyler has been super busy with school. We are finally starting to feel better but it has been pretty awful. Poor Tyler has been out studying until late every night and then up early in the morning. It's been hard. I am so jealous of my sister and her family they are in Disneyland right now! I am sure they are having a blast. Hopefully things are all better by this weekend and we can have a little relaxing fun!!! Unfortunately our week has been a ugh. . . so no good stories- next time I hope to have something better to report!!!

Sick Days

Yesterday I felt fine, then last night I started feeling so awful. I went to bed at 8:00 woke up and still feel awful. The worst part is I don't get any sick days. Tyler had to go to school and I was stuck here feeling miserable, trying to keep a baby happy and a little boy out of trouble. I think it is so unfair that we don't get sick days. It seems like everyone else gets to take days off from their everyday life except for Moms. Usually I love what I do but today I was not in the mood to make paper bag puppets, clean up messes, do laundry, sing silly songs- all I really wanted to do was watch TV and sleep. Hopefully I get better soon. It always feels like recovery takes longer when I am pregnant or nursing- maybe its just me but right now I have a feeling tomorrow will be another long day.

Ruby Anne

Congratulations to Richard and Erica. They welcomed their new baby girl this weekend. She was 8 pounds 6 ounces and two weeks early! We were able to go and visit today she is very cute. They are not sure when she will be coming home but she is doing well and Erica looks great for just having a baby. Here is what I can't believe - She didn't have to have any stitches- I am so jealous but happy for her.

Potty training is going really well. Garret has had a few accidents but it is going way better than I expected. It is still hard to believe he is old enough to go on the potty. Every new phase makes me a little sentimental.
